Two teenagers drowned in a swimming accident in Hesse, a 13-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl. According to the police, the two were on Saturday afternoon together with several young people with a boat on the Breitenbacher See near Bebra (Hersfeld-Rotenburg) on the way. For reasons still unknown, both got under water and were finally no longer traceable.
According to police, witnesses informed the operations control center about a swimming accident with two missing persons at around 17:45 p.m. During the accident, there was a lot of activity at the lake. Fire, DLRG, police and other rescue workers immediately began searching for the missing young people. A police helicopter was also deployed.
Unsuccessful resuscitation attempts
The two missing people were finally found and recovered after several hours in the evening in the lake. Despite immediately initiated medical measures and several resuscitation attempts, the rescue workers could only determine the death of the two teenagers.
The exact circumstances of the accident are still unclear and part of further investigations, and comprehensive witness interviews are also being conducted. "At the moment, however, a tragic bathing accident must be assumed," said the police.
