French director Justine Triet has won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival with her film »Anatomy of a Fall«, the jury announced on Saturday evening. The film prevailed against 20 other competition films. The decision was made by a jury chaired by last year's winner Ruben Östlund.
In »Anatomy of a Fall«, an author (Sandra Hüller) has to answer in court after the death of her husband. She is suspected of having killed him. But the case is not clear and there are no witnesses. "It's the most intimate film I've ever made," Triet said at the awards ceremony in Cannes.
Dedication to young filmmakers
In her acceptance speech, the Frenchwoman denounced the "sell-out of culture" by the "neoliberal" French government and dedicated the prize to all young filmmakers. Triet is only the third woman to win the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
This year's Grand Jury Prize, the second most important award of the festival, was awarded to British director Jonathan Glazer for »The Zone of Interest«, a German-language drama starring Sandra Hüller and Christian Friedel.

The Cannes International Film Festival came to an end on Saturday evening with the presentation of the Palme d'Or for Best Film. 21 films competed for the main prize at the 76th Côte d'Azur Festival.
