The 2023 Palme d'Or for Best Film is awarded to director Justine Triet for "Anatomy of a Fall". Shortly before, the Grand Prix was awarded by two legendary directors, Quentin Tarantino and Roger Corman, to Jonathan Glazer for "The Zone of Interest".

The 76th Cannes Film Festival ends this Saturday evening as it began, in the presence of Hollywood legends who took to the stage to award the most prestigious prizes of the 7th art. At the end of a very open competition, the Festival announced Saturday that the Palme d'Or would be awarded by actress Jane Fonda, known for her militant commitments. Shortly before, the Grand Prix was awarded by two legendary directors, Quentin Tarantino and Roger Corman, 97, one of the oldest of American cinema. And it was Jonathan Glazer for "The Zone of Interest" who won.

The Best Actor award went to Japan's Koji Yakusho for Wim Wenders' "Perfect Days". "I especially want to thank Wim Wenders and the co-writer (...). You have created a magnificent character," he said, moved, on stage. In this film by the director of "Paris, Texas" (Palme d'Or in 1984) he plays Hirayama, an employee of the Tokyo public toilets, a quiet and solitary man, who will gradually open up to others. For the Best Actress award, it is the Turkish Merve Dizdar for her role in "Dry Herbs".

The jury, chaired by Sweden's Östlund, who won his second Palme last year, had to decide between 21 filmmakers, including 7 female directors. Shortly before the ceremony began, most of the favorite directors appeared on the red carpet. Among them: Hirokazu Kore-eda, whose "Monster", about bullying in schools, could offer the Japanese his second Palme, and the French Justine Triet for "Anatomy of a fall", a chilling autopsy of a dysfunctional couple of artists.
