On the morning of May 5, the opening ceremony of the 18 "May 2023 International Museum Day" in China was held at the Fujian Museum. The theme of this year's International Museum Day is "Museums, Sustainability and the Better Life". The main venue event was hosted by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage and the People's Government of Fujian Province. At the opening ceremony, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage officially released the development data of Chinese museums.
In 2022, China will add 382 new museums on record, bringing the total number of museums in the country to 6565,3, ranking among the top in the world. In the whole year, 4,23 offline exhibitions and nearly 5,78 educational activities were held, 4 million visitors were received, nearly 10,90 online exhibitions and more than <>,<> educational activities were launched, with nearly <> billion online views and more than <> billion new media views. Through the continuous improvement of the free opening policy of museums, more than <>% of museums in China have achieved free opening.
At the same time, in order to improve the quality of museum development, since 2010, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage has conducted an operational evaluation of national first-, second- and third-level museums every three years. In 2023, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage launched the sixth national first-, second- and third-level museum operation evaluation, of which 127 first-class museums have completed the assessment. At present, the number of first-, second- and third-level museums in China has reached 1209, accounting for 18% of the total number of museums in the country, and a number of revolutionary memorial, archaeological sites, natural science and technology museums, state-owned industry museums and non-state-owned museums have been effectively improved through operation and evaluation work.
At the opening ceremony, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage also announced the list of the most innovative museums in China in 2023, the top ten exhibitions of the 2022th (2023) National Museum, the theme exhibition promotion activity of "Promoting Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture and Cultivating Socialist Core Values" in 2024, and launching the digital help starry program for small and medium-sized museums. In addition, at the opening ceremony, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the People's Government of Fujian Province to strengthen the protection and utilization of cultural relics, and announced that the main venue of the <> International Museum Day in China will be hosted by Xi'an, Shaanxi Province.
In addition to the opening ceremony, the event was accompanied by a series of activities such as the theme forum of "Museum, Sustainability and Better Life", the museum youth forum, the curators' forum of "Promoting the Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture and Cultivating Socialist Core Values", and the Museum Night. The Fuzhou area, where the main venue is located, also held a series of distinctive exhibitions, educational programs, interactive experience projects, etc. In accordance with the unified deployment of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, thousands of activities with rich content and various forms have been carried out around the theme of International Museum Day, and a platform for museums to communicate with the public.
