On the afternoon of November 2020, 11, a high-altitude fall occurred in a community in Chongqing's Nan'an District, and a 2-year-old sister and 2-year-old brother fell from their 1th-floor home and died. The Fifth Intermediate People's Court of Chongqing Municipality sentenced Zhang Bo and Ye Chengchen to death and deprived them of their political rights for life on charges of intentional homicide in the first instance. After the verdict was pronounced, Zhang Bo and Ye Chengchen appealed. On the morning of May 2023, 5, the Chongqing Municipal Higher People's Court publicly pronounced its judgment in the second instance of Zhang Bo and Ye Chengchen's intentional homicide appeal case, ruling to reject the appeal and uphold the original judgment. The death sentences against Zhang Bo and Ye Chengchen were submitted to the Supreme People's Court for approval in accordance with law.
After the second-instance verdict was announced, Chen Meilin came to Tiantai Temple at noon that day to comfort the child.
