It is a star of the American thriller who will be honored at the next Cannes Film Festival which opens on May 16, 2023. Michael Douglas, 55 years of career will receive an honorary golden palm to "salute his brilliant career and his commitment to cinema," according to the organizing committee. At 78, Michael Douglas said he was "honored to return to the Croisette to open the festival".

No one better than him will have embodied in the Hollywood imagination the characters of thriller, powerful, toxic, hunted by their demons.

Among the highlights of his career, the role of the megalomaniac of finance, Gordon Gekko, in Oliver Stone's film Wall Street, which earned him the Oscar for Best Actor in 1988.
