At 5:2 on May 23, a 27.25-magnitude earthquake occurred in Wayao Town, Longyang District, Baoshan City (35.99 degrees north latitude, 28.5 degrees east longitude), with a focal depth of 2 kilometers, and the earthquake in Baoshan City and Dali Prefecture was felt strongly, and the earthquake was felt obviously in Nujiang Prefecture and Lincang City. As of 10:3 on the 1rd, a total of 23 aftershocks had occurred, including 38 at magnitude 4-4.9.

The earthquake caused damage to many residential buildings, water, electricity, roads, communications and other infrastructure in the epicenter area to varying degrees. The reporter learned from the Baoshan Traffic Police Detachment that the earthquake rockfall caused damage to the roads K2690 to K2695 (Laoying to Cangjiang Laoyingyan section) of the Hangzhou-Rui Expressway.
