  • Queen Letizia debuts pink dress, her eighth model of this color in three months

It was 2019 when, for the first time, gray hair was sensed in Doña Letizia's always impeccable hair. Those white hairs that at that time were visible only to very attentive eyes today, four years later, have become an obvious lock that is gaining strength and that, far from dyeing the same brown tone as the rest of her hair, leaves her natural grayish color.

That today, both at the opening of the European Conference "Tobacco or Health" and at lunch with Brazilian President Lula da Silva at the Royal Palace, his gray hair is even more evident and well visible may be due to three factors: the spotlights, which always illuminate light hair more and make it stand out from the dark; that, when the Queen wears her hair longer than ever, they show themselves in all their splendor, or that, as would be logical, they proliferate as they get older.

Be that as it may, it is noticeable that the monarch has done nothing to hide those gray hairs that are already part of her aesthetic hallmarks.

More visible gray hair, hidden messages?

The million-dollar question is, why doesn't Queen Letizia take action on the matter to combat those gray hairs?

If we look for hidden messages, or not, in his peppered hair, we could defend, plain and simple, that gray hair is beautiful. Not in vain its presence is being claimed more and more strongly, so much so that it has become, almost, a beauty trend.

The legion of women who have decided to stop dyeing and wear their gray hair with pride does not stop growing. Already after the pandemic it was Andie MacDowell who announced that she was over dyeing, and there we have her, happy with her age and her hair. Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon did the same in the sequel series to 'Sex and the City', 'And just like that'. A few days ago it was the singer Becky G, much younger than the three mentioned, who showed her gray hair on TikTok and talks about them without complexes of these gray hairs that accompany her since she is 14 years old for reasons of stress.

Because gray hair, if cared for, is even aesthetically beautiful. And, as the hairdresser Eduardo Sánchez stressed when the monarch turned 48, "she has a bright mane, probably the result of a very healthy diet, exercise and that provides the necessary care."

Acceptance is the other possible message behind real gray hair. Plain and simple, the Queen accepts that at her age, gray hair comes out. And beyond trends and aesthetic currents, if they are there it is because it plays. And no matter how much you try to dye, cover or camouflage them, they will be there. And why hide them? Why close your eyes to the evidence? The King also sports gray hair and beard.

Queen Letizia, pioneer in gray hair

To the Queen, in addition, we can grant the honor of having been one of the first great figures who has brought out the gray hair (with permission of Ángela Molina). With the pandemic, many were the 'celebrities' who left their gray hair in sight, and boasted about it, on social networks. Many others were later dyed again, such as Eva Longoria or Salma Hayek, and others were not, such as Andie MacDowell, who in fact has turned her gray hair into news on more than one occasion (among them, when she stepped on the red carpet of Cannes in 2021, leaving her mouth open to locals and strangers).

Doña Letizia is also 'primus inter pares' among the 'royals': to celebrate Monaco's National Day 2020, Carolina de Monaco premiered silver hair color that, since then, she has never dyed again.

Precisely MacDowell told YO DONA a year ago, about his gray hair: "I can only express this change with one word: acceptance. And that I'm comfortable with how old I am, something that others notice." The same message that we could attribute to Queen Letizia.
