Beijing, April 4 (Zhongxin Net) -- The premiere ceremony of "Beijing Urban Planning (20-1949)" and the academic seminar on the 1960th anniversary of the first edition of Beijing's urban master plan were held at Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture. This book comprehensively sorts out and discusses the important stages of large-scale urban construction and the beginning of modern urban planning in the capital at the beginning of the founding of New China, and discloses a large number of extremely valuable first-hand archival materials for the first time, filling gaps in many fields such as the history and basic theory of urban planning in China.

Today, the reporter learned from Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture that the author of the book is Li Hao, a professor at the School of Architecture and Urban Planning of Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture. Focusing on the practical needs of providing historical mirrors for the construction of the capital, he and his team visited the Central Archives, Beijing Municipal Archives and Beijing Urban Construction Archives for many times to extensively consult a large number of original archival materials, conducted in-depth academic interviews with more than 50 capital urban planners and translators, and systematically sorted out the diaries of Beijing leaders in charge of urban planning and construction during the "First Five-Year Plan" period, and completed the book "Beijing Urban Planning (1949-1960)" after years of deep cultivation.

Since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, Beijing has leapt from a city with a population of more than 100 million and construction land limited to the city walls to an international metropolis with a population of more than 2000 million and global influence, and its urban functions and appearance have undergone tremendous historical changes. As a megacity, Beijing's land use layout structure was gradually shaped through urban planning in the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The book conducts a special systematic study on the history of Beijing's urban planning in the early years of the founding of New China, sorts out the background, planning process, main content and implementation of the first Beijing urban master plan in 1953 and the 1957 and 1958 Beijing urban master plans, and scientifically analyzes the reasons and response mechanisms of Beijing's planning models such as reconstruction and expansion based on the old city, "ring + radiation" road grid bureau and decentralized group spatial layout. It reveals the comprehensiveness, complexity, contradiction and historical law of the capital city's planning and construction activities. The book shows with a large number of facts that the urban planning work of the capital Beijing from 1949 to 1960 was a long-term continuous promotion and continuous improvement of the historical process.

Zheng Jingsheng, former deputy mayor of Haidian District, Beijing, attended the meeting as a special guest. A large number of first-hand historical materials in the book include notes and diaries of his father, Zheng Tianxiang, when he was in charge of Beijing's urban planning and construction from 1953 to 1958.

Zhang Dayu, president of Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, pointed out that the publication of the book is a major landmark achievement in the construction of the discipline of urban and rural planning in the school. At present, the school is striving to build a high-level characteristic university, cultivate future-oriented planners, designers and architects, the school attaches great importance to the construction of urban and rural planning disciplines, attaches great importance to the historical and theoretical research of urban planning, and hopes to provide experience reference and theoretical support for the contemporary capital construction and the coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei through the summary of historical experience.

Lu Xinzhi, deputy editor-in-chief of China Architecture Publishing and Media Corporation (China Architecture and Architecture Press), said that this book comprehensively sorts out and discusses the important stages of large-scale urban construction and the beginning of modern urban planning in the capital at the beginning of the founding of New China, and for the first time discloses a large number of extremely precious first-hand archival materials, which fills the gaps in many fields such as the history and basic theory of urban planning in China, and has extremely high historical materials and academic value.

Ma Guoxin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and consultant chief architect of Beijing Architectural Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd., pointed out that the book is a very important work in the history of urban planning in China, and aims to inspire and exemplify the study of national planning history by studying the history of urban planning in Beijing. The book aptly evaluates the first edition of Beijing's urban master plan, and in addition to the presentation of a large number of written historical materials, there are many graphic materials, which are very valuable for historical research.

Tang Kai, president of the China Urban Planning Association and former chief planner of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, pointed out that this book has found many scientific and technical issues to be explored through the warmth of historical materials and the summary of urban planning development and change. China's urban construction has made remarkable achievements, but it lacks systematic summary and localization theory. The publication of this book helps to inspire readers to think about urban planning today.

Chen Weibang, former chief planner of the Ministry of Construction, former vice chairman of the Urban Planning Society of China and former vice chairman of the China Urban Science Research Association, Liu Rengen, former vice president of China Academy of Urban Planning and Design, Mao Qizhi, former vice dean of the School of Architecture of Tsinghua University, Cao Guangzhong, deputy dean of the School of Urban and Environmental Sciences of Peking University, Wang Yanan, researcher of the China Urban Science Research Association, deputy editor-in-chief and director of the editorial department of Urban Development Research, as well as dozens of authoritative experts and scholars in the field of urban planning attended the meeting.
