• Within the last afternoon of the 100 of Morante: "I have turned my back on the cult of fear"
  • El Juli to Raúl del Pozo, from teacher to teacher: "I wish a bullfighter came out of the closet"

Of the long-awaited appointment of Easter Sunday, it must be said, technically and without missing the truth, that it brings together the three stellar protagonists of the 2022 season -Morante de la Puebla, Julián López "El Juli" and Andrés Roca Rey- and that it is, therefore, an unbeatable poster. This is demonstrated by the data of the ticket finished for days, of the crazy resale. But, out of clichés and formalisms, it is this afternoon of reopening of the Maestranza the return of Morante, of his incorporation to the season that missed him so much and now takes on another color, of the return of the teacher who gave us in 100 afternoons the happiest year of our lives for his 25th anniversary of alternative. An unknown joy for going to the square, for discovering bullfighting like wrecks in the ocean of his bullfighting, for writing with a new pulse the old rhythm of bullfighting.

Eight months doing the daily miracle of bullfighting, a regularity unthinkable in art, in inspiration sustained over time, based on three solid pillars: a silent value -to bullfight more settled, tight and slow than anyone else-; a powerful technique invisible under the guise of beauty; and an unattainable variety, that archive of old bullfighting, which has not given two equal masterpieces. And there were memorable, unattainable, in the maximum temples of this bullskin that is Spain: in Seville, Madrid, Pamplona or Salamanca.

The Prince's Gate due can be the engine of the accounting grays – the saddest office in the world – who measure the Morantist history by numbers – a Prince's Gate – and not by indelible works. He faces this Easter Sunday the first of his six signed afternoons, again, for the second consecutive year, in Seville: "It is not necessary to explain why we have hired him that number of afternoons. We want to thank him for starting in Resurrection, "said Ramón Valencia at the time.

If you want Prince's Gates, there is that titan that is El Juli. To the oval arena of the Maestranza he returns with all his teaching on his back in this his quarter of a century as a bullfighter. Its figures in Seville constitute a mark that nobody ever reached: it unlocked its seventh Puerta del Príncipe at the last fair. His connection with the heart of the master hobby goes back a long way. As a bullfighter, he desorejó a utrero of Juan Pedro Domecq in 1998. And the following year he would achieve, already as a matador, his first Puerta del Príncipe with the Jandilla bullfight. His Sevillian numbers are made of an insulting domain: 41 ears in 50 runs, with seven Prince's Gates, as has already been said, and three more afternoons in which he walked two ears. He has suffered three gouges, the most serious of his entire fertile career here too, in 2013. He has fought a total of 97 bulls in Seville and pardoned one, Orgullito, from Garcigrande, on April 16, 2018.

And the third in contention is Roca Rey, which curdled a stratospheric campaign in 2022. The modeling statistics consolidated the leadership, at the box office and in the arena, of those who reconnected with their most extraordinary virtues to delve into them to exceed their most recognized levels. Among all his triumphal evenings -Valencia, Castellón, Seville, Madrid, Pamplona...-, the Homeric feat of Bilbao will remain in the memory. In the Maestranza he has always remained on the threshold of glory. But, as Serrat's song says, today can be a great day. The bulls of Núñez del Cuvillo will have the last word.

The debut of Mundotoro, between curiosity, restlessness and ignorance

Never on such a distinguished date as Resurrection in Seville had the medium acquired as much prominence as the content. The birth of MundotoroTV as a relay of the mourned Canal Toros, of Movistar Plus, has aroused as much curiosity as concern. At the moment, it can only be seen on computers and mobiles, according to Pablo Romero, one of its directors. That also states that of the "advanced agreements, that of Orange is on hold and Vodafone seeks commercial accommodation. " We are in sensible times," he said. But the thing is that the general public, not the fan in particular, does not know how and where to see the new bullfighting signal. The project, so tender, also lacks a marketing and recruitment campaign that lives up to its ambitious objectives. The voices of the bullfighters who will wrap David Casas as the main narrator will be those of César Rincón, Fernando Cepeda, Manuel Caballero and Dávila Miura, as this newspaper has already advanced. Bullfighting needs its takeoff and affirmation.
