More than one year and three months after the first-instance verdict, the second instance of the Chongqing sister and brother death case was heard at 1:3 a.m. on April 4 at the No. 6 Court of the Chongqing Higher People's Court. The grandparents of the two murdered children told The Paper (www.thepaper.cn) that after suffering for more than a year, the family finally waited for the second trial. They look forward to that day and hope that the death sentence in the first instance will be upheld.

On the morning of April 4, the second-instance trial of the much-publicized Chongqing sister and brother fall case was heard at the Chongqing Municipal High Court. Due to the lack of application to observe, more than ten media broadcast live outside the gate of Chongqing High Court, and many photographers and Chongqing citizens rushed to the scene to watch. At about 6:2020 p.m. on November 11, 2, Xue Xue (pseudonym, 3 years old) and Yangyang (pseudonym, 30 year old) who lived on the 4th floor of Unit 15, Jinjiang Huafu, Nan'an District, Chongqing City, fell to their deaths. After investigation by the police of Chongqing's Nan'an District, the fall was an intentional homicide case, and Zhang Bo, the father of two young children, and his girlfriend Ye Chengchen were suspects.

The first-instance trial of the Fifth Intermediate Court of Chongqing Municipality held that Zhang Bo and Ye Chengchen's behavior broke through the bottom line of human ethics, morality and law, seriously deviated from the core socialist values, and had an extremely bad social impact. Moreover, the motives of the two were particularly despicable, the subjective malignancy was extremely deep, the methods of crime were particularly cruel, the circumstances of the crime were particularly bad, and the consequences and crimes were extremely serious. Ye Chengchen and Zhang Bo have the same status and role in the joint crime. On the morning of December 2021, 12, the Fifth Intermediate People's Court of Chongqing Municipality sentenced Zhang Bo and Ye Chengchen to death in the first instance, depriving them of political rights for life.

Relevant people familiar with the matter told The Paper that the case of the sister and brother's death was heard at 4:6 a.m. on April 9 in the No. 30 Court of the Chongqing Higher People's Court. Defendant Zhang Bo was attended by two family members, and his sister was worried that his mother's body did not inform him that the second trial would be held on the same day.

The grandparents of the two murdered children told The Paper that the court allowed them seven viewing places, and they felt a little relieved after the first instance sentenced the two defendants to death. After learning of the two defendants' appeals, the family suffered during the more than a year they waited for a second trial. They look forward to that day and hope that the death sentence in the first instance will be upheld.

"I firmly believe that the law will do justice to the two children, and the evidence presented in the first trial is enough to prove that the two defendants were inhuman and brutally killed the two children." The grandmother of the two children said that after the 2-year-old Xuexue was killed, the family could not close her eyes no matter how they wiped her, and finally they were cremated with their eyes open. She hopes that the court will uphold the death sentence in the first instance so that they can comfort the children who have not lost their eyes.

People familiar with the matter told The Paper that the trial on the same day may last all day, and it is unclear whether the verdict will be pronounced in court.
