Algeria and Morocco will dominate, in presence, the quarter-finals of the Champions League with two clubs represented by country. Algerians have been running behind the tropée since 2014 and the coronation of ES Setif. The defending champions, Wydad Casablanca, are there to defend their trophy and their biggest threat will be their neighbor, Raja Casablanca, best team in the pools with 5 wins and a draw in six rounds. Record holder of titles (10) and finalists of the last three editions, Al Ahly almost fell by the wayside. The Egyptian club has indeed qualified for the quarters thanks to its victory on the last day against Al-Hilal (3-0). Simba's Tanzanians appear a bit like the little thumbs of these quarter-finals, even if the team, champions of Tanzania, have already played a semi-final in the Champions League in 1974.

In the Confederation Cup, the absence of the defending champions, RS Berkane, leaves the way open to multiple contenders. It will not be TP Mazembe, winner in 2016 and 2017. The Congolese club played a pitiful group stage with only one win and five consecutive defeats. The oposition of these quarters is more homogeneous with 8 countries represented. Difficult to come out a favorite so no team flew over the group stage.
