On March 3, the much-publicized Yuzhang Academy case will be retried, this time in a different place.

On March 3, the reporter learned from Bei Bei (pseudonym), a student victim of the Yuzhang Academy case, that the case will be retried at 29:3 on March 31 at the Anyuan District People's Court in Pingxiang City, Jiangxi Province.

"Yuzhang Academy" is called Nanchang Qingshan Lake District Yuzhang Academy Self-cultivation Education College, founded in May 2013 by Wu Junbao. In October 5, "Yuzhang Academy" was exposed to be suspected of illegally detaining students. Since then, the school has been closed, and some students have reported the case to the police. The case was investigated by the Qingshanhu Branch of the Nanchang Municipal Public Security Bureau and transferred to the Qingshan Lake District Procuratorate for review and prosecution in January 2017.

Wu Junbao, chairman of Yuzhang Academy, Ren Weiqiang, principal of Yuzhang Academy, and three teachers (instructors) Zhang Shun, Qu Wenkuan, and Chen Bin were charged by the public prosecution with the crime of illegal detention.

In the first instance, the Nanchang Qingshan Lake District Procuratorate filed a complaint alleging that between May 2013 and November 5, Wu Junbao, Ren Weiqiang and others knew that their school did not have the qualifications for psychological education and psychotherapy, but still violated the provisions of the school's license by arbitrarily administering the so-called "Morita Therapy" related to psychotherapy and mental disorder treatment activities to the new students of the school, setting up "small black rooms" in the school, and often putting new students into the "small black room" for seven days of confinement, illegally depriving students of their personal freedom.

According to the accusations of the prosecuting organs, Wu Junbao, Ren Weiqiang, and others have confined more than 240 students in the form of "small black houses", and "the period of confinement varies from three to ten days."

In July 2020, the Nanchang Qingshan Lake District Court rendered a first-instance judgment in this case, finding that all five defendants constituted the crime of illegal detention, of which Wu Junbao was sentenced to two years and ten months in prison, Ren Weiqiang was sentenced to two years and seven months in prison, Zhang Shun and Qu Wenkuan were sentenced to one year and ten months and 7 months respectively, and Chen Bin was exempted from criminal punishment. At the same time, the court dismissed the plaintiff's claims for civil damages and public apology in the incidental civil action.

After the judgment of the first instance was pronounced, the plaintiff of the first instance and the defendants of the first instance, Zhang Shun and Qu Wenkuan, all appealed.

On December 2020, 12, the Nanchang Intermediate Court issued a civil ruling incidental to the crime, finding that "the facts of the original judgment were unclear" and remanding the case back to the Nanchang Qingshan Lake District Court for a new trial. After that, the case was transferred to the Anyuan District Court of Pingxiang City, Jiangxi Province.
