As demand for overseas travel fell due to the Corona disaster, and many people expired their passports without renewing them, an industry group formed by travel agencies has decided to start a new initiative to encourage people to obtain and renew their passports.

According to the Japan National Tourism Board, the number of foreign tourists visiting Japan recovered to 2019% last month compared to the same month in 56 before the pandemic, while the recovery of Japan leaving the country has been slow at 2019% in 35.

The Japan Travel Agents Association, an industry group formed by travel agencies, believes that the delay in the recovery of people leaving Japan is that opportunities for overseas travel have been greatly reduced due to the corona disaster, and many people have expired their passports without renewing them, so they have decided to launch a new campaign to encourage people to obtain and renew their passports.

Those who obtained or renewed their passports between May and September and who went abroad between July and September are eligible.

Up to about 5,9 people will be given an electronic gift certificate worth 7,9 yen per person.

According to industry associations, the passport holding rate of Japan people last year was about 3000%, down 1 points from 8000.

Jun Sakai, vice chairman of the Japan Association of Travel Agents, said, "Once you get one, you can go abroad as many times as you want, so I want as many people as possible to get a passport."
