Martin Scorsese is preparing the release of a possible new cinematic masterpiece in October, with none other than the talented Leonardo DiCaprio headlining. The film, entitled "Killers of the Flower Moon" is an adaptation of the eponymous book by David Grann, and is already tipped for the Cannes Film Festival.

Martin Scorsese's next film, produced by Apple, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, will be released in theaters before being put online on the video giant's streaming platform, its distributors have announced. "Killers of the Flower Moon will be available on Apple TV+ after its theatrical release, in France and around the world," they said. The release is scheduled for October 18, 2023, "in partnership with Paramount Pictures". In the United States, a "limited release" to a few theaters is scheduled for October 6, and a wider release on October 20.

Scorsese's first film at Cannes since 1986

Martin Scorsese's previous film, "The Irishman", was not released in theaters in France, its producer Netflix wishing to reserve it for its platform. "Killers of the Flower Moon" will therefore meet a different fate. The film is also strongly tipped to be presented at Cannes in May, where it would be an event: Martin Scorsese has not come with a film since "After Hours" in 1986.

"We are in discussions" with Apple and Paramount in this sense, said the general delegate of the Cannes Film Festival, Thierry Frémaux, in an interview Monday with Variety. "The important thing is to make sure Martin Scorsese is present with his new film, which is an important work," he said. "Killers of the Flower Moon" delves into 1920s Oklahoma on the trail of serial murders. The film features two Scorsese's favorite actors, Robert De Niro ("Taxi Driver", "Raging Bull", "Les Afranchis") and Leonardo DiCaprio ("Shutter Island", "The Wolf of Wall Street").
