Recently, the reporter saw in the hall of the School of Music and Dance of Yunnan Normal University that a variety of national musical instruments were displayed here, and teachers and students of related majors continued to take out musical instruments in front of the display case, or to play, or to study and learn the sound principle of musical instruments.

【Commentary】Here is the "Digital Exhibition Hall of Intangible Cultural Heritage Music and Dance Education Resources in China-South Asia and Southeast Asian Countries" created by the School of Music and Dance of Yunnan Normal University. Unlike the usual showrooms with separate exhibition halls, this gallery is built using the public space of the college lobby. The Musical Instrument Exhibition Hall creates a regional music and cultural atmosphere, and teachers and students can "meet" the musical instruments exhibited here every time they pass by the hall.

In the past ten years, Professor Yang Chen of the School of Music and Dance and his graduate student team have conducted fieldwork in ethnic minority villages in southwest China and collected a large number of ethnic musical instruments, most of which are hidden in the "Digital Exhibition Hall of Intangible Cultural Heritage Music and Dance Education Resources in China-South Asia and Southeast Asian Countries".

So far, the graduate team we have led has run to Yunnan, Guangxi, Sichuan, Guizhou, Chongqing, then Hainan, Hunan, Hubei, and we have all run to these provinces, and then we have collected. So far, we have calculated that we have interviewed a total of 218 folk artists, folk artists of various nationalities, and then collected a total of about 350 musical instruments.

In the process of fieldwork, Yang Chen found that there are a large number of endangered national musical instruments in southwest China, many of which have never even come out, and some of which are only mastered by a folk artist, and these musical instruments need to be studied and protected urgently.

Musical instruments First of all, we have to make it, this production process is very complicated, you must have a good inheritance, you have to learn a lot, learn well, after you do this instrument well, you also have to train, practice and play. We know that every instrument, in fact, no matter any instrument, you need time to learn. So the inheritance of this instrument is now the biggest problem.

At present, Yang Chen and his team are recording the production techniques of these musical instruments, and filming and recording the production process and performance skills of these musical instruments through video, which is a very important step to protect these colorful national musical instruments.

Any musical instrument, its production technique, is a very important means for us to understand this instrument, its underlying cultural genes, and after I record this skill, the whole process is recorded, even if the instrument may be lost in the future, but its production skills, we have preserved, we can continue to do it later, such as restoring his instrument, or some other work.

【Commentary】In the future, students will not only be able to see the actual musical instrument during the learning process, but also see the appearance of the folk artist when they play, and hear the sound of the instrument playing. Yang Chen introduced that this intuitive feeling is very helpful for understanding musical instruments and feeling music. In the future, he will lead the team to more places to discover and collect national musical instruments.

Our biggest feature in Yunnan is a lot of musical instruments, its production process is very simple, its musical structure is also very simple, there may be musical instruments can only blow one tone, some may only blow three tones, but the simpler these instruments, the more it can reflect its most basic principles, and even from academic research, we see this simple instrument, we will even have an inspiration, is it a primitive society, the ancients played this way, is it this instrument, is it this instrument, Even from this we can think about how musical instruments originated, and even we can think more deeply about how music originated.
