【Commentary】On March 3, the National Cultural Relics Industry Vocational Skills Competition opened in Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, where 25 players from 27 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) in China competed on the same stage to demonstrate cultural relics restoration and archaeological excavation techniques.

【Commentary】There are 6 competition items in this competition, namely wood cultural relics restorer, mud and tile cultural relics restorer, ceramic cultural relics restorer, mural color sculpture cultural relics restorer, metal cultural relics restorer, archaeological exploration and excavator, each project has two links: theoretical assessment and practical operation. For the first time, the competition also explored the combination of the National Professional Skill Standards for Cultural Relics Conservators to formulate competition rules more scientifically and standardized, and to examine the theoretical knowledge and skill level of the participants.

According to reports, holding the National Cultural Relics Industry Vocational Skills Competition is an important way and measure to cultivate cultural relics skill talents, promote more and more young people to engage in cultural relics restoration and archaeological work, let the spirit of craftsmanship become the trend in the cultural relics industry, and let traditional skills pass on the torch.

Through this competition, those excellent talents will be pushed to the front line, especially for our ancient ceramic restoration. I am also the only national non-genetic inheritor of ancient ceramics restoration in China, and I have the responsibility to carry forward our non-genetic heritage, and I hope that our students can stand on our shoulders and go one step further.

【Commentary】In the ceramic cultural relics restorer competition area, the reporter saw Yang Yujie, a cultural relics restorer from the Palace Museum in Beijing, restoring a lotus blue pattern bowl from the Qing Dynasty. It is understood that Yang Yujie has restored precious cultural relics such as Neolithic painted pottery and Shang Dynasty white pottery.

She hopes that through this competition, she will better integrate traditional restoration techniques with her academic background. According to modern restoration theory, the traditional restoration technology is better played into the daily cultural relics restoration work.

This is my first time participating in our cultural relics industry restorer competition, and in the process of this skills competition, there are experts and peers from all provinces, cities (regions) across the country. Through such a competition, in addition to competition, it is also a very good opportunity to learn from these peers and experts and increase your own repair experience.

【Commentary】The State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China held two national cultural relics vocational skills competitions in 2018 and 2021 respectively. Co-sponsored by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China, the Ministry of Chinese Resources and Social Security, and the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, the competition is the most widely participated and the largest number of participants in China's cultural relics industry so far.

Li Qun, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China and Director of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China

Cultural relics skilled talents with cultural relics restorers as the main body are an important basic force for protecting precious cultural heritage, inheriting excellent traditional Chinese culture, and realizing the high-quality development of cultural relics, and their ability and level are related to the safety of China's cultural relics. Holding the National Vocational Skills Competition in the Cultural Relics Industry is an important way to cultivate talents with cultural relics skills.
