【Commentary】On March 3, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou held an exhibition of the work achievements of Hong Kong and Macao children's classes, attended by more than 24 representatives from the education sector in Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Macao and Shenzhen to exchange experience in the integrated development of education in the Greater Bay Area.

The integrated development of education in the Greater Bay Area is inseparable from the collaborative innovation of schools in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. The Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area proposes to encourage primary and secondary schools in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao to form "sister schools" to build schools for Hong Kong and Macao children or set up classes for Hong Kong and Macao children in Guangdong and provide boarding services.

【Commentary】In April 2019, the official selection of two century-old famous schools in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou Peizheng Middle School and Yuexiu District Chaotian Primary School, was the first in the country to set up a public class for Hong Kong and Macao children. Over the past four years, the two schools have inherited the cultural context of Lingnan Canton, paid attention to "patriotic education + daily management", and built and formed a school-based curriculum system for Hong Kong and Macao children at the junior high school and primary school levels, cultivating compound talents with family and country feelings, international vision and creative thinking.

After four years of exploration and practice, the running of Hong Kong and Macao children's classes in Yuexiu District has gradually formed five characteristics. In terms of curriculum, we implement the "National Curriculum + Cantonese Cultural Characteristic Curriculum" to allow students to have more exposure to local culture.

【Commentary】At this meeting, six schools, including Guangzhou Peizheng Middle School, Guangzhou Yuexiu District Chaotian Primary School, Guangzhou and Greater Hong Kong Macao Children's School, Hong Kong Taoist Federation Yuen Xuan College Chan Lu Chongde Memorial School, and Macao Hao Kong Middle School Affiliated Primary School, established "sister schools".

The above-mentioned schools will further explore the establishment of a closer cooperation and exchange mechanism, form a high-level research alliance, and carry out teacher training, joint construction and exchange of teachers from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.

Next, we will have a lesson observation arrangement, and our teachers in Hong Kong will teach a class for teachers from the mainland to see. [Let's see] what teachers in the mainland do when a student behaves like this, and what teachers in Hong Kong do. We have to have a very significant exchange, or a very deep understanding, to help the different students in these two regions.

Zhang Zhihong, principal of Guangzhou Peizheng Middle School, said that Guangzhou Peizheng Middle School has established branches in Hong Kong and Macao, which has a good foundation for opening classes for Hong Kong and Macao children.

With this platform built today, we hope that the ("sister schools") in the four places can be further integrated in the future. Second, in fact, we often hope to learn from each other, such as our excellent teachers to go out to communicate with people outside, and then learn from each other, I think it is very helpful for their professional growth.

【Commentary】Chen Buqian, Vice Principal of Macao Hao Kong Secondary School, said that Chaotian Primary School has many characteristic courses, which can be integrated with the Affiliated Primary School of Macao Hao Kong Secondary School, hoping to enhance students' understanding of traditional culture through different carriers.

In the curriculum, we will introduce many of these Chinese studies and traditional cultures, such as introducing Peking Opera into the campus and vigorously promoting the teaching of calligraphy.

Chen Qiao, director of the Education Bureau of Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, said that the district has promoted the extension of Hong Kong and Macao children's classes to both high school and preschool levels, smoothed the channels for Hong Kong and Macao students to complete 15 years of integrated education in the district, and created more convenient environmental conditions for Hong Kong and Macao residents to work, live and study in Yuexiu District.
