Equatorial Guinea, who had organized the CAN in 2012 and 2015, took the lead by opening the scoring thanks to Saul Coco in the first half against Botswana (20th), reduced to ten in the 53rd minute. Equatorial Guinea doubled the lead in the second half with Federico Bikoro (66th). After being beaten by Tunisia on the first day (4-0), the national Nzalang had scored three points with a victory against Libya (2-0). Equatorial Guinea, which has three participations in the final phase, continues with this victory that allows it to consider a fourth final phase in Côte d'Ivoire.

With a single point ahead of the opponents of the day, the Tunisians, present in Qatar during the last World Cup, had to sign a quality performance against Libya to stay at the top of Pool J. A largely possible objective, since the Carthage Eagles are used to qualifying for the final phase of the CAN. Youssef Msakni took advantage of a ball pushed away by the Libyan goalkeeper to open the scoring in the 13th minute. On penalty, Ali Maaloul doubled the bet in the 20th minute. At the end of the game, the Eagles hit the nail on the head in this one-sided meeting with Haythem Jouini (86th). Tunisia have not conceded a goal since the start of this playoff campaign.
