The defamation box got a lot of attention when it was launched in the spring of 2021. The idea was to distribute money to women convicted of defamation after telling them they had been abused.

In May of the same year, a review of SVT's Crime of the Week showed that all ten defamation charges in which a woman accused a man after the metoo autumn of 2017 led to a conviction for the women.

" The defamation fund was an emergency action in connection with metoo. We have been talking about this for a year, because we do not have the opportunity to put in the time, says Maria Sveland to Kultur nyheterna.

Three women have received money

According to the Defamation Fund's own information, three women have received payments totalling SEK 203,512.

Are there any who have applied who have not received?

- Some have been denied, who have not had a clear metoo connection.

According to Sveland, the women who have received dividends from the coffers are those who have written about abuse in closed groups and who have not named anyone directly. However, there have been details that the court interpreted as a designation.

In some of the more media-acclaimed cases, the women were sentenced to pay sums between SEK 50,000 and SEK 110,000.

The defamation fund announced via its Instagram account that the business is closing down, something Dagens ETC was the first to report.
