The new name will be "Counter-strike 2", or "CS2", and is a free update to "CS:Go". This time, Valve's new game engine Source 2 is used.

Valve describes the update as "the biggest technological leap forward in 'Counter-strikes' history," in a press release.

All items previously purchased by players are included in "CS2," and among the novelties mention redesigned special effects, sounds and dynamic smoke grenades, the latter means, among other things, that smoke can fill spaces in a natural way and that the shape of the cloud can be changed by bullets and grenades, according to Valve.

To be released this summer

Selected players can test "CS2" right now, while the update will be released to everyone sometime this summer.

"Counter-strike" is played in teams and at the time of its release in 1999 was first a variant (mod) of "Half-life". "CS:Go" was released in 2012 and is still often found at the top of the most played games on the distribution platform Steam and is a popular e-sports game.
