Toward the practical application of "flying cars," which are being developed as a next-generation means of transportation, it was learned that the councils of the national government and other organizations have compiled a draft of the basic concept of operation. From the latter half of the 2020s, dedicated airspace such as "corridors" will be established, and some of them are expected to operate at a higher density than conventional aircraft.

With regard to "flying cars," which are being developed around the world, a council made up of the national government and business operators is studying the regulations and systems necessary for practical use, and we learned from interviews with people involved that they have compiled a draft of the basic concept of operation.

In the draft, the definition of "flying car," which has not been clarified until now, is "the next-generation means of air transportation realized by technologies such as electrification and automation, and vertical takeoff and landing."

Aircraft are classified into three types according to propellers and wings, and the dedicated airfield is called "Bertieport".

As a new form of air traffic management, a dedicated airspace "corridor" will be set up so that "flying cars" can come and go frequently.

Use cases include travel within and between cities, routes connecting remote islands and mountainous areas, and transportation in the event of a disaster.

In addition, as a specific stage of introduction, commercial operations will begin around 3, and from the latter half of the 2025s, dedicated airspace "corridors" will be installed and "vertiports" will be developed in urban environments such as building rooftops, and it is assumed that they will be operated at a higher density than conventional aircraft in some cities.

And from the 2020s onwards, it will become even more sophisticated with the start of autonomous operation.

This proposal is scheduled to be formally finalized at next week's council meeting, and it is expected that the system design and development will proceed based on this.
