The comedian was found last week by the police after a malaise in front of the King's Cross station. He was taken to hospital before being placed in a coma. In a state of brain death since, his ventilator was disconnected on Sunday night, as announced by his family. The death of the actor was pronounced at 3:49 am on Monday.

"I am devastated. My father was a legend in many ways. He always brought a smile to everyone's face," his daughter, Sophie Jayne Grant, told The Sun newspaper. The actor, suffering from dwarfism and father of three children, had appeared in 1983 in Star Wars, where he played the role of an Ewok, or a goblin of the Gringotts bank for wizards in the unforgettable first part of the Harry Potter saga.

The 1.32m actor also starred in the film Willow in 1988 and in the feature film Labyrinth alongside David Bowie in 1986.
