Hamida Abdullah provoked with her acting in 70s Afghanistan. Shirin-Gul was uptight and dominant. She was simply the man in the house. Something that was not at all appreciated by some.

"The men didn't think I did anything good, they thought I gave their wives ideas," says Hamida Abdullah.

The popularity of the series grew and eventually the angry men got it wrong – Hamida Abdullah had become popular. But during the 90s, the Taliban invaded and seized power over Afghanistan. Hamida Abdullah who had everything she could have wanted – family, children and career, had to leave everything and flee.

"We had a great life in Kabul until the Taliban came. But we had to flee because they had plans against the artists, just like it is today," she said.

Fled to Sweden

She fled with her family and came to Sweden where they settled. However, his career did not follow and in Sweden it became too difficult to start over, says Hamida and continues:

"It makes me very sad, I don't feel good about it at all. An artist without his art is like being living dead. One is just a shell.

Making a comeback this fall

But now, thirty years later, Hamida Abdullah will perform again. This time on Swedish soil and with the monologue "Shirin-Gul's return".

– To be able to perform again for my Afghans and also Swedes, it makes me very happy, says Hamida Abdullah.
