For the first time since 1958, the Smurfs get a new designer. On the occasion of the release of the new album "Who is this Smurf?", the cartoonist Tebo tries to reinvent the little blue men, without disfiguring them.

It is a small revolution that is being prepared in the world of Comics. The Smurfs return for the first time since 1958 in a new album called "Who's That Smurf?" To do this, the little creatures of the Belgian Peyo were modified by the pen of Tebo, who before redrawing them, spent hours following the adventures of the little characters.

A little blue man

"I was a collector of figurines. With my Smurfs figurines, I must have told at least 500 stories, so I think I have more stories than Peyo," he joked at the microphone of Europe 1.

For this new adventure with a funny style, flirting with the absurd, a Smurf loses his memory after a fall and wonders why he is blue and why he wears white tights in it. "I also wanted to draw a little Gargamel before drawing the Great Smurf. There, we have fun as a cartoonist, but I wanted to do it my way too," explains Tebo.

Word play

"But it still looks like the Smurfs village, the Smurfs look the same, but they have my graphic style," continues the cartoonist. And to add: "And above all, in this new album, I wanted to play with the word smurf".

A successful stunt for Tebo, who was able to fit the word "smurf" into one of the dialogues. Now remains for the public, the opportunity to discover this new album on May 5, in bookstores.
