Spring is warm and flowers are blooming, everything is recovering, and annoying spring allergies follow.

According to pollen monitoring data from medical institutions, the Beijing area has now entered the spring pollen peak period.

Wang Xueyan, vice chairman of the Allergy Branch of the Chinese Medical Association:

Pollen monitoring data show that the concentration of the main allergenic pollen in the air reached more than 3,600 grains per thousand square millimeters on March 8. The main allergenic pollen is cypress pollen, elm pollen, poplar tree pollen.

In recent days, the number of outpatient visits has tripled compared to usual, and some patients have severe symptoms.

As the temperature rises, northern China will gradually enter the pollen peak season.

Allergic rhinitis has obvious seasonal characteristics

Experts remind that spring is the season with a high incidence of some respiratory diseases, among which allergic rhinitis, the prevalence rate has increased significantly in recent years, which needs to be paid attention to.

Allergic rhinitis is a non-infectious inflammatory disease of nasal mucosa.

The main symptoms are paroxysmal sneezing, watery nasal discharge, nasal itching, and nasal congestion.

Some patients may be accompanied by eye symptoms, including eye itching, tearing, redness and burning sensation.

Some patients may be combined with bronchial asthma, accompanied by symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath and chest tightness.

Allergic rhinitis is divided into perennial allergic rhinitis and seasonal allergic rhinitis.

The allergens of perennial allergic rhinitis are mostly dust mites, cockroaches, animal fur, etc., and there is no obvious seasonality.

The allergens of seasonal allergic rhinitis are mostly plant pollen, and seasonal pollen exposure is the main cause of hay fever.

Wang Xueyan, vice chairman of the Allergy Branch of the Chinese Medical Association:

perennial allergic rhinitis and seasonal allergic rhinitis are quite different.

Perennial allergic rhinitis occurs throughout the year, and the same symptom recurs. It is mostly caused by exposure to dust, cleaning, turning on the air conditioner, and exposure to dirty and messy environments; seasonal (allergic) rhinitis is more related to the amount of pollen There is a certain relationship, there is obvious seasonality and time, the disease will occur in this season, and the disease will heal itself after this pollen season.

Pollen allergy symptoms are easily confused with colds

Experts pointed out that patients with seasonal allergies should take scientific protection in time: wear masks and goggles when going out, take off their coats when entering the room, wash hands, eyes and nose, and minimize contact with pollen.

In addition, experts also reminded that the incidence of respiratory diseases is high in spring, and the symptoms of pollen allergy are easily confused with colds, so we should be more vigilant to avoid delaying treatment.

Spring is a period of high incidence of respiratory diseases. The symptoms of allergic rhinitis are similar to those of colds. It is easy to be confused and lead to misuse and abuse of antibiotics, thereby delaying the disease.

In this regard, experts pointed out that pollen allergies have obvious seasonality and time, and the duration is at least 3 weeks, without symptoms such as fever, headache, and muscle aches.

If a certain related symptom recurs regularly, be highly alert to allergies and seek medical treatment in time.

Wang Xueyan, vice chairman of the Allergy Branch of the Chinese Medical Association:

Patients with hay fever should go to the hospital for timely medical treatment, identify allergens, and receive standardized diagnosis and treatment.

During the pollen peak period, drug control and symptomatic treatment are mainly used. Individual severe patients may consider using biological agents. After the pollen remission period, specific immunotherapy is mainly used.
