The twin giant pandas "Xiao Xiao" and "Lei Lei" at Tokyo Ueno Zoo began preparing to become independent from their mother on the 10th.

Male Xiao Xiao and female Lei Lei, twin giant pandas born at Ueno Zoo, will be 1 year and 9 months old on the 23rd of this month, when wild pandas begin to stand on their own.

For this reason, from the 10th, the zoo began preparing for him to become independent by gradually reducing the amount of time he spends with his mother Shin Shin.

On the 10th, I spent the morning away from my mother, and the two cubs were friendly, facing the same direction, eating sasa and running around energetically side by side.

According to the zoo, Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei both weighed about 50 kg at the checkup on February 5, about 40 times their weight when they were born.

Permanent teeth are erupting and growing normally.

A man in his 50s who saw the show twice on the 10th said, "I'm sad that my parent and child aren't together, but I hope they grow up healthy."

Also, a woman who has a 2-year-old child, the same as the two, said, ``My son will be entering a nursery school from April, so there are some overlaps.

The zoo will take about 10 days to gradually become independent while watching the situation.

Principal Yutaka Fukuda commented, "The twins have grown a lot thanks to the hard work of their mother, Shinshin. I hope the twins will continue to grow together."
