SR, closely followed by SVT, still has the highest trust of all Swedish media companies.

But since last year, both companies have dropped four percentage points each.

According to Emanuel Karlsten, chairman of the Media Academy, it is not a surprising development.

- We can see that we have had a pandemic where very many institutions have gained very high trust, and now public service is back to more normal levels.

Then we can also see that there have been quite big changes depending on the party sympathies you have, says Emanuel Karlsten.

Confidence is falling among younger people

In the barometer, one can see that among the survey's younger participants, i.e. those aged 16-29, trust is increasing in all traditional news sources except for the public service companies.

- I don't know what could be the reason.

It is certainly up for debate, says Emanuel Karlsten.

Tiktok makes barometer debut

This year, the trust in Tiktok was measured for the first time, and the platform immediately ended up in last place.

According to the barometer, only two percent of survey participants said they had fairly or very high confidence in Tiktok.

- Tiktok is entering the lowest rating I think the confidence barometer has ever had.

In a way, it's natural given the deep mistrust that exists towards Tiktok, above all because it is Chinese-owned.

Twitter and Facebook are raging

Twitter and Facebook were slightly higher than Tiktok with five percent each.

But both platforms have undergone what Emanuel Karlsten describes as a percentage-wise big race.

- Twitter has had a very tough year, with Elon Musk taking over.

And even though it is a relatively small platform in Sweden, it has been reported a lot, and very negatively about it.

What is a bit special now is that of all the social platforms we measure, it is suddenly Flashback, perhaps the most reviled forum Sweden has ever had, that is at the top, he says.
