Painted pottery is the most distinctive feature of Yangshao culture.
The National People's Congress and Zhengzhou Cultural Relics Bureau director Gu Wanfa said in an exclusive interview with a reporter from China News Agency that he suggested strengthening research on the relationship between Yangshao culture and the origin and formation of Chinese civilization.

Looking at the whole of China, we will find that the area centered on Shaanxi, Shanxi, and Henan is the core area of the distribution of Yangshao Culture, especially in the middle and late stages, when the middle stage is late to the late stage, the Zheng and Luo areas became the core at that time, or It is the core of important representation.
[Explanation] The Yangshao Village Site in Sanmenxia, Henan Province is named after the Yangshao Culture, and the Shuanghuaishu Site is a rare high-standard urban central settlement in the middle and late Yangshao Culture in the Yellow River Basin, known as the "Heluo Ancient Country".
[Explanation] Gu Wanfa, who presided over the archaeological excavation of the Shuanghuaishu site in Zhengzhou and discovered the "Heluo Ancient Kingdom", has long participated in or presided over archaeological projects such as the Xia, Shang and Zhou Dating Projects, and the Chinese Civilization Exploration Project. He has many years of field work and experience in Yangshao Culture There are many achievements in the research on the representative painted pottery in Yangshao culture.
[Explanation] Gu Wanfa introduced that before the "Silk Road" that connects China and the West, there are many cultural roads, one of which is the painted pottery road. The cultures of European Romania and other places are very closely related to China's Yangshao culture.
The Zhengzhou Municipal Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and the Institute of Archeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences formed an archaeological team to conduct archaeological excavations in Romania. The main purpose is to explore the connotation of the above-mentioned "Painted Pottery Road".

It is very famous in Europe (the Tripolije-Cukuteni culture that appeared in Romania and other places), and it has a very close relationship with our Chinese Yangshao culture.
By exploring the core areas of these European cultures, we also hope to truly study the specific connotations of such an important painted pottery road before the "Silk Road".
[Explanation] Gu Wanfa said that many early elements of Chinese civilization have appeared in Yangshao Culture, and the middle and late Yangshao Culture is the golden stage of the origin and formation of Chinese civilization.
He believes that if the Yangshao culture, which is located in the middle reaches of the Yellow River and has a time span of 2000 years, has important connections and references with the surrounding Hongshan culture and Liangzhu culture, and the origin and formation of Chinese civilization, can be strengthened. It may greatly promote the research on many major issues such as the origin and formation of Chinese civilization and the interaction of ancient countries.
Therefore, it is suggested to set up a national research institute on Yangshao culture and the origin of Chinese civilization.

From a national perspective, although many scholars are engaged in the study of Yangshao culture, there is a lack of such an integrated large-team combat and joint attack mechanism.
If possible, we would like to propose such a proposal to the state to the relevant departments, on the basis of a good operating mechanism, to establish a research center for Yangshao culture and the origin of Chinese civilization, or to establish an advanced research institute, according to the most advanced academic mechanism ( set up).

Gu Wanfa said that the rich Yangshao cultural resources and basic academic research conditions are important factors.
Zhengzhou is located at the confluence of the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River. It is the core category of "Heluo Ancient Country" and an important exchange area between Yangshao Culture, Dawenkou Culture, Daxi Culture and Qujialing Culture.
