A subcommittee of experts from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has agreed to allow the use of a nasal spray vaccine for influenza vaccination.

This is the first time that this form of vaccine has been approved in Japan.

Up until now, only injectable influenza vaccines have been approved, but seven years ago Daiichi Sankyo, a major pharmaceutical company, introduced the Flumist Nasal Injection, in which weakened viruses are atomized into a mist and sprayed into the nose. I had submitted an application for approval of the liquid.

On the 27th, a subcommittee of experts from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare agreed to approve the policy to allow its use in Japan, as it is expected to be as effective as the injection type.

The target is 2 to 19 years old, and it will be inoculated with 1 inoculation whereas it was necessary to inject 2 doses.

This is the first time that a so-called nasal drop vaccine, which is sprayed into the nose in a mist form, has been approved in Japan, and it is expected that even small children can be vaccinated without fear.
