A female Air Self-Defense Force officer claims that she was sexually harassed by a male member while working at Naha Air Base, but the Self-Defense Force did not take appropriate measures to prevent recurrence. I filed a lawsuit seeking compensation with the Tokyo District Court.

According to the defense team, the woman who filed the lawsuit was an active-duty self-defense officer of the Air Self-Defense Force, and from 2010 to 2013 when she was working at Naha Air Base, she was sexually harassed by her male colleagues, such as being teased about her physical characteristics. Despite receiving repeated remarks, the Self-Defense Forces did not take an appropriate response.

Even after reporting the damage to the Self-Defense Forces, the woman was forced to work in the same workplace as the male personnel for a total of five years. He claims that he suffered mental distress, such as being killed, and is seeking compensation from the government of more than 11 million yen.

Hirofumi Sato, a lawyer for the plaintiffs, said at a press conference, "I believe that this is a trial that questions the seriousness of secondary damage caused by sexual harassment. It is not just the Self-Defense Forces, but society as a whole that seeks 'responsibility as an organization' for harassment. I want to continue," he said.

The Ministry of Defense commented, "When the complaint is served, we will consider the content with the relevant organizations and respond appropriately."

``It's not the past for me'' comment from a female SDF officer

The female self-defense officer who filed the complaint commented through her defense team, "During this time, the organization has covered up and treated me as a bad person who reported the damage. I want the self-defense force to become an organization that can act properly. My boss told me not to dig into the past, but I still suffer from sleep disturbances and flashbacks. For me, it's not the past, but the organization's response to harassment. The effects of what I didn't do continue to haunt me to this day."
