On February 19, the Forest and Grass Bureau of Qinghe County in Xinjiang and the Xinjiang Burgen Beaver Nature Reserve Administration jointly rescued five Mengxin beavers that were trapped on the river.
On the same day, the cadres of the forestry brigade of the Qinghe County Forestry and Grassland Bureau received clues from grassroots forest rangers that there was a family of five beavers. Due to the cold weather, the river was covered with a thick layer of ice, and the beavers could not forage. .
Subsequently, the cadres of the Xinjiang Burgen Beaver Nature Reserve Management Bureau brought the beaver back to the rescue station of the management team safely.
This is the second time the authority has rescued beavers this year.
It is understood that the beaver is a species that survived the early Pleistocene of the Quaternary period 2 million years ago. It is one of the oldest surviving animals in the world. It is known as the "architect" of the animal kingdom and the "living fossil" of ancient vertebrates.
There are only two species of beavers in the world: the American beaver and the Eurasian beaver.
The beaver distributed in my country belongs to one of the Eurasian beaver subspecies, named Mengxin beaver.
At present, the Mengxin beaver is listed as a national first-level key protected wild animal, and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has also included it in the "Red Data Book" of endangered species.
At present, there are 197 beaver families in the Ulungu Lake Basin, with a total of 622 beavers; among them, there are 38 beaver families and 162 beavers in the Bulgen River, a branch of Ulungu Lake.
