  Hu Jinchu, born in Kaijiang, Sichuan in 1929, is a zoologist and a professor at the Institute of Rare Animals and Plants of China West Normal University.

He is internationally recognized as the founder of giant panda ecological biology research, and is known as the "father of Chinese giant pandas" and "the first person in China's giant panda research".

  Hu Jinchu is a pioneer in the field research and protection of giant pandas in China. He organized and led the first field investigation of giant pandas in China, and invented the method of determining the number, age structure, activity range and regularity of giant pandas through giant panda feces. The "Hu's method", the first survey of the number of giant pandas in China, the establishment of the world's first giant panda wild ecological observation station - "Wuyipeng", contributed to China's first international cooperation in wildlife protection, published the world The first academic monograph on the ecological research of wild giant pandas in history.

  After the work of "Wuyipeng" came to an end, Hu Jinchu returned to China West Normal University and continued to engage in research and teaching. He continued to teach until he was 84 years old, and trained a large number of outstanding talents for the Chinese zoological field.
