For a few years JK Rowling has been accused of transphobia.

The author was not involved in the development of "Hogwarts Legacy", but activists and former fans have encouraged a boycott of the game.

Gaming forums have banned discussions and some gaming sites have limited their reporting.

It remains to be seen

whether this affects sales.

Medially, the controversy has partially overshadowed the hype, but Harry Potter as a brand may be too big to be

cancelled

.

Anyone who is considering buying "Hogwarts legacy" would do best to read up and form their own opinion.

The game is a powerful action-RPG

that is impressively faithful to the mythology and above all the atmosphere in the books.

Battle a dark wizard, fly a hippogriff, or just chill and mix witches' brew in your cauldron.

Hogwarts and its surroundings are a massive open world, rich in magic and variety with secret passages and great freedom to explore.

The plot is a prequel and takes place sometime in the 1890s.

The player is accepted as a fifth-year student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and like the young Harry Potter, your character carries hidden magical abilities.

After a prologue

where

you are chased by evil goblins and dragons, the start of school also gets intense, as you run between different classrooms to learn spells and defend yourself against new monsters.

The script for the adventure is not quite perfect and it sometimes becomes painfully robotic when the main character himself speaks.

Another weakness is that the dialogue choices

, which give the choice between polite or cocky attitude when meeting the game's other characters, often seem to result in the same response.

It's also hard to notice any effect of the player's choice between Gryffindor or Slytherin, which makes the role-playing element come across as a bit underdeveloped.

However, there is nothing wrong with the gameplay itself, with a smooth combat system, educational menus and generous experience system.

All magical beasts also offer a solid challenge, despite the wand's many functions constantly needing to be updated.

The game's great strength lies

mainly in the atmosphere of Hogwarts, which actually looks and feels more alive than in the film series.
