Takashima Municipal Hospital in Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture, revealed that three patients were suspected of having cancer in a CT scan, but the attending physician overlooked them.

Two of them later died, and the hospital apologized to the bereaved families and is working to prevent a recurrence.

According to Takashima Municipal Hospital, despite the fact that male patients in their 70s and 80s who visited the hospital complaining of abdominal pain in 2019 were described as "suspected cancer" in the CT examination report, their attending physicians has overlooked it.

The man in his 70s and the man in his 80s were diagnosed again 5 months later and 10 months later, respectively, and the oversight was discovered, and they were admitted to another hospital, but died afterwards.

It is believed that cancer is the cause.

As a result of checking reports such as CT examinations over the past five years, the hospital found that even in 2015, it had overlooked the description of "suspected cancer" for a female patient in her 90s.

The attending physicians are said to have said, ``I was distracted by the part where the patient complained of discomfort and didn't notice it.''

The hospital said, ``I think that treatment was delayed due to oversight and the symptoms worsened,'' and apologized to the bereaved families and families.

Yoshihisa Takeda, director of Takashima Municipal Hospital, commented, "I sincerely apologize to patients and their families. We will work to prevent recurrence and restore the trust of patients and citizens."
