Mayors of Sagawa-cho and Ochi-cho in Kochi Prefecture, who are related to botanist Dr. Tomitaro Makino, who is the model for the serial TV novel "Ranman" that will start broadcasting this spring and confirmed their cooperation in promoting each other's regions.
Dr. Tomitaro Makino, who discovered and named more than 1,500 species of plants and is known as the "Father of Japanese Botanical Taxonomy," was born in Sagawa Town, Kochi Prefecture, and moved to what is now Nerima Ward at the age of 64. I continued my research for years.
On the 7th, Mayor Yuji Kataoka of Sagawa Town and Mayor Yasuyuki Oda of Ochi Town, who continued to visit the town for botanical research, visited the Nerima Ward Office.
Mayor Kataoka and others told Nerima Ward Mayor Yoko Maekawa that they would like to work together, such as promoting local specialties at events in Nerima Ward.
Mayor Kataoka said, "In Sagawa-cho, there is Makino Park, where the doctor used to play when he was a child, and we would like to promote these sightseeing spots in cooperation with Nerima Ward."
Mayor Oda said, "I would like to take this opportunity to do activities to let children know about Dr. Makino."
Mayor Maekawa of Nerima Ward said, "I want to do PR while keeping pace with the two towns so that Mr. Makino will become famous."
