Eight years after the attack by the Islamic fundamentalist militia Islamic State (IS) on Iraqi Yazidis, Angelina Jolie visited her home region of Sinjar together with the human rights activist Nadia Murad, who was arrested at the time.

The Oscar winner and Murad met with women and children on Wednesday to draw attention to the destruction of the area in northern Iraq.

"I'm honored to support the work of my friend Nadia Murad and other Yazidis who are rebuilding their lives and homes after the horror," Jolie said.

The 47-year-old actress (“The Stranger Son”) retired a few weeks ago from her honorary post as a special envoy for the UN refugee agency.

But as Jolie said, she wants to continue to support refugees and the disadvantaged in the future.

The 29-year-old Murad, who was honored with the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018 and lives near Stuttgart, on the other hand, continues to work as a goodwill ambassador for the dignity of survivors of human trafficking for the United Nations (UNODC).
