  • Today, "On a perched tree" by Gérard Saryan published on January 19, 2023 by Editions Taurnada.

Laure "the happy reader", blogger, bookstagramer and contributor to the 20 Minutes Books reading group, recommends "Sur un arbre perché" by Gérard Saryan, published on January 19, 2023 by Éditions Taurnada.

His favorite quote:

Since my earliest childhood, I considered each tree as a sanctuary, an impregnable fortress where I could take refuge at the slightest opportunity, fleeing the cruelty of a world in which I no longer felt I belonged.

As I took off my shoes, I assessed the distance to the first branch.

Climbing trees was second nature to me.

Within five minutes, I found myself on top of the world.

Why this book?

  • Because from the prologue, I was caught up in the plot.

Don't be fooled by appearances, it is much more complex than it seems.

With a rhythm that never falters, the author takes us on a journey through every parent's worst nightmare: the disappearance of their child.

We put ourselves in Alice's shoes and the breath is short until the outcome.

  • Because it's a destabilizing thriller that makes you dizzy.

    Brutally effective.

You will experience strong emotional moments, and open your eyes wide to the terrible revelations.

An elusive culprit but is there only one, we doubt everything and everyone on every page.

Drawer novel that stands out from other thrillers, finally a new sensation in the genre.

The essentials in 2 minutes

The plot.

On the station platform, Dimitri, under the responsibility of his mother-in-law, disappears.

Against everyone's advice, Alice goes looking for him.

By flirting with danger, she puts her finger in an infernal gear.

The truth is more awful than the lies that surround this disappearance.

Characters.

Alice pregnant and in a relationship with Guillaume himself already dad of pre-teen Barbara and Dimitri 4 years old.

Her best friend Diane is a psychiatrist.

Captain Raphaël Neves of the judicial police is leading the investigation.

Serge Guiguet journalist and ex-gendarme will mingle with history.

Places.

The novel begins in Lyon and we quickly arrive in Paris, the place of the disappearance of little Dimitri.

From Bourges to Orléans, with a most agonizing detour to Albania, but also to Switzerland.

A hellish race against time in its many destinations and back and forth.

The time.

The investigation takes place in real time spread over several months.

A few go back in time to 25 years ago, but often only a few months earlier.

The author.

Born in 1972 in Valence, Gérard Saryan, an informed observer of our society and its quirks, opens up the black box of his imagination with his thrillers.

A lover of Jules Verne, this history buff is a true storyteller.

This book was read with

the impression of not being invited with Alice, the heroine, to Wonderland, but to a reading rich in emotions, as dizzying as if I had been perched on a tree.
