The Saint-Etienne church, located in Auriac-du-Périgord (Dordogne) won the citizen patronage prize from the Heritage Foundation.

The votes for this "competition" closed on Tuesday, reports France Bleu Périgord.

This prize was disputed online, thanks to the vote of Internet users.

And it is 60% that the French chose the Périgord church rather than the Saint-Saturnin church located in La Chapelle-Bertrand (Deux-Sèvres).

A renovation at 300,000 euros

The Saint-Etienne church will therefore receive 4,000 euros from the Heritage Foundation to finance its restoration work.

These amount to a total of 300,000 euros, including 70,000 euros at the expense of the municipality of Auriac-du-Périgord.

Some foundations of the historic monument date back to the 6th century, but the main structure, in Romanesque style, dates from the 12th and 13th centuries.

Work on the framework and the cover is necessary, as well as some masonry and the restoration of the stained glass windows and the locksmithing.
