In one of the Syrian beauty centers, Muhammad Haffar and his sister, Reham, present a therapeutic method for facial freshness and treatment of skin wrinkles, based on natural materials.

The two brothers were inspired by the idea from neighboring countries, where people search for natural and organic cosmetics, and they started their project in 2022.

Mohamed imported white snail eggs and placed them in a humid environment.

He and his sister, who specializes in skin care, now own 1,500 snails, which they loan to beauty parlors, where specialists perform skin care sessions with them.

Muhammad said, “The snail has a special status, and they ask us to sell the snail, but they cannot raise it.

He has a diet so we can take enzymes from him.

We send to any center, to any party we send specialists to conduct the sessions.

He added, “We would like to eliminate something called chemicals and injections. They are effective, but not the same as the snail’s effectiveness.

In foreign countries, there are special centers for this story.

And although a 30-minute session costs 300,000 pounds (about $67), which is considered prohibitively expensive for many in a country facing an economic crisis, Al-Haffar says the customers are increasing every day.

It is believed that the white snail secretes a sticky substance that helps nourish the skin.

However, doctors and dermatologists say there is no significant scientific research proving a specific skin benefit.

For her part, Reham Al-Haffar, a skin care and beauty specialist, said, “It is a very new technology for us in Syria, and the demand for it is very sweet, because the world wants to return to normal.”

While a Syrian woman named Maro said: “I tried it overland, and I benefited a lot from it. My skin became smoother, and the pores became smaller, and I was very happy. It happened to us, and I definitely want to do it more.”

Some have traced the use of snail slime all the way back to ancient Greece, where people would crush the animal and use it as a treatment for skin diseases.

Recently, products containing snail slime have become increasingly popular in countries such as France, Thailand, Chile and Italy.
