Jordan has sea, mountains and salt.

It is also

one of the youngest countries in the world

, having been officially created in 1946, when it achieved independence from the

United Kingdom

(previously it was part of the Ottoman Empire).

Another milestone: having one of the most spectacular deserts on the planet, Wadi Rum, full of immense

granite and sandstone

canyons , petroglyphs and postcard dunes.

Not surprisingly, it is considered the most beautiful in the world as it offers

unusual

reddish tones .

Nor is it the classic of eternal dunes, but the monumental rocky mountains are part of its usual landscape.

In it we begin this route through the Arab state bordering Saudi Arabia, Iraq,

Syria, Israel and Palestine

that will later continue in the Dead Sea.

Called the Valley of the Moon for its resemblance to the satellite,

films such as

Mars,

Red Planet, On Hostile Earth

or

Dune have been filmed in

Wadi Rum

.

Also some episode of

Star Wars

and even

Lawrence of Arabia

.

Camel route through the desert.

From the mythical tape in which the faces of

Peter O'Toole, Omar Shariff and Anthony Quinn were seen on the tape

, the original carriages of the train that the Turkish leaders intended to send

to Mecca from Damascus

, passing through here, are still preserved.

It should not be forgotten that the English officer used the desert as a base of operations during the 1916

Arab Rebellion

against the Ottomans.

Today, an interpretation center remembers that time, just like the movie, along with the wagons of that time.

Also still standing is the camp where

Thomas Edward Lawrence

(that was his real name) lived in the desert, now converted into a place of worship for film lovers.

There are many ways to experience Wadi Rum:

by 4x4

, camel, paragliding, ballooning,

climbing,

trekking

... Not surprisingly, one of the most beautiful ways to get here is by covering the penultimate stretch of the

Jordan Trail

, a kind of

Camino de Santiago

of 650 kilometers and eight stages that crosses the country from north to south.

Once here, there is nothing better than resting in the exclusive

resorts with tents and bubbles

with transparent roofs scattered among the dunes.

There is a reason we are in one of the few places on the globe with hardly any light pollution, so

astronomical observation

is an obligatory nighttime task.

Not surprisingly, most tourist complexes offer personalized experiences led by experts to enjoy up close (read via telescope)

Cassiopeia, the Big Dipper

or even the rings of Saturn, which can be seen almost any day.

From the desert to the beach,

since, despite being one of the countries with the least amount of water in the world, Jordan has 26 kilometers of coastline between the Red Sea (a

top

destination for diving) and the Dead Sea.

The latter, shared with Israel, is also the lowest point on Earth:

435 meters below sea level

.

Two young men read the newspaper at the Dead Sea.

This, together with its enormous salinity of 33% (10 times more than any ocean), causes that there is no life in it and that the bodies float, its main tourist attraction.

Hence the

classic photos of travelers reading a book

or a

tablet

comfortably lying on its waters as if it were the sofa at home.

The experience of floating on the Dead Sea is completed with a

natural

peeling

in situ

with

mineral-rich mud.

You can apply it yourself to your face and body or let the experts at the luxury hotels scattered throughout the area apply a massage with

therapeutic properties

that, they are convinced, leaves your skin smoother and softer than a baby's.

Another of the essentials of the area is to observe how the sun goes down behind the waters well accommodated from the infinity pools of the hotels.

They say it is

one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world.
