Two emperor tamarins abducted from the Dallas, Texas zoo on Monday have returned home.

As the zoo announced on Tuesday, the two monkeys were discovered about 25 kilometers away in an abandoned church in Lancaster after an anonymous tip.

A spokesman for the Dallas Zoo also confirmed that the enclosure for the white-bearded monkeys (Saguinus imperator) had been opened under circumstances that remain unclear.

In the zoo, the oldest and largest in Texas, there have been repeated incidents in recent weeks.

On January 13, a clouded leopard (Neofelis nebulosa) escaped after the fence of the big cat's enclosure was cut open.

A week later, keepers found the lifeless body of a lappet-faced vulture (Torgos tracheliotos).

The Dallas Zoo later reported a conspicuous wound that killed the 35-year-old Pin.
