, the Directorate General for Public Finances (DGFiP) warns on its website against a fraudulent SMS campaign.

It is based on the system put in place by the government to help the most modest households who take their car to go to work.

Apply on the official website

The scammers send an SMS pretending to be the tax department.

They then offer to register you on a platform to obtain the fuel allowance.

The objective is to recover personal and banking data.

Once this information is in hand, the scammers can empty your bank account by making transfers.

"The Directorate General of Public Finance does not send SMS to promote the fuel allowance, the only official site to make its request is impots.gouv.fr", recalls the DGFiP on its website.

In total, 10 million people are affected by the device but 7 million have not yet claimed.

To receive the aid, the reference tax income (RFR) of a single person must not exceed 14,700 euros in 2021, or 1,314 euros net per month.

For a couple with two children, the threshold is 3,941 euros net per month.

Beneficiaries have until February 28 to apply.
