Luxury fashion house Gucci has signed Sabato De Sarno as its new creative director.

The designer, who grew up in Naples, will be responsible for all collections of the luxury brand in the future, as the French fashion group Kering, to which Gucci belongs, announced on Saturday.

So far in his career, De Sarno has worked at Prada, Dolce&Gabbana and most recently at Valentino since 2009, where he has assumed increasingly responsible positions over the years.

The 39-year-old Italian succeeds his compatriot Alessandro Michele as creative director, who resigned in December.

It was initially not clear when exactly he would start his job at Gucci.

"As soon as possible when he has completed all obligations in the current role," it said.

De Sarno is scheduled to present his first collection at Milan Women's Fashion Week in September 2023.

"I am delighted to have Sabato join Gucci as the new creative director," said Marco Bizzarri, Gucci President and CEO, emphasizing the move, emphasizing De Sarno's extensive experience and appreciation for Gucci's heritage.

De Sarnos himself commented on his new post, saying "I am proud to join a house with such an exceptional history and legacy" and referred to many common values.

Alessandro Michele left Gucci after almost 8 years as chief designer and worked for the fashion house for a total of 20 years.

During that time, the 50-year-old fashion designer managed to increase the company's sales to ten billion euros a year and put the brand on a par with major Parisian competitors such as Louis Vuitton and Chanel.

His romantic, playful style with the imaginative, lush designs was extremely influential and formative in the history of fashion.
