• In the bay of Saint-Brieuc, a park of 62 wind turbines located at sea is under construction.

  • It will be commissioned in December and will be able to produce 496 megawatts, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 835,000 inhabitants.

  • The project is led by Ailes Marines, a subsidiary of the Spanish giant Iberdrola.

After a short winter break, the construction site of the wind farm in the bay of Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d'Armor) will start again with renewed vigor in the coming days.

With a capacity of 496 megawatts, this park of 62 wind turbines located at sea will be commissioned "in December 2023", confirmed Wednesday Ailes Marines, a subsidiary of the Spanish giant Iberdrola, which won the call for tenders in 2012.

In the bay of Saint-Brieuc, where the tension has subsided, the future wind farm is already clearly visible.

At the end of last year, forty wind turbine positions had already been drilled, equipped with piles and sealed, i.e. "about 65% of the park including the position of the electrical substation", specifies Ailes Marines.

Twenty-four positions called "jackets", which will support the wind turbines, have also already been installed at sea.

Gradual commissioning

In the coming days, several ships will reach the area to lay the 90 kilometers of inter-wind turbine cables.

They will be joined from mid-February by the Dutch ship

Aeolus

which will continue its mission of drilling and installing piles on the 22 remaining positions.

Once the last "jacket" foundations have been installed, a major project will finally start before the summer with the installation of the first 8 Megawatt turbines designed by Siemens Gamesa on their foundations.

The offshore wind farm will then be operational but its commissioning will be done “gradually and in stages: 20%, 50% and 100% in December 2023”, specifies Ailes Marines.

On this date, the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm will be able to produce the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of 835,000 inhabitants.
