Emmanuel Macron announced on Wednesday that January 25 will now become the “national day against sexism” for a “more egalitarian” society.

“For six years, the Together Against Sexism collective has been organizing an event every January 25 to fight against sexism,” recalled the Head of State in a tweet.

For a more egalitarian society and because this fight is everyone's business, January 25 will now become the national day against sexism.

Sexism on the rise among young people

The proposal to dedicate a national day to this cause had been made by the High Council for Equality (HCE) to the president who accepted it, it was specified at the Elysée.

Emmanuel Macron received HCE President Sylvie Pierre-Brossolette on Wednesday, who gave him her latest report.

This meeting made it possible to discuss the fight against sexism from an early age, the regulation of the pornographic industry, the representation of women in the digital and scientific sectors, equal pay, the strengthening of feminist diplomacy , but also sexual and reproductive health, the presidency added.

The HCE, an independent advisory body, has just released a report on Monday revealing that, despite the awareness caused by the #MeToo movement, sexism persists in France and is progressing among those under 35, in particular with "masculinist reflexes" in young men.
