Along with the Nagasaki Lantern Festival, where about 15,000 lanterns and objects decorate the city, lanterns representing sea creatures such as penguins and pufferfish are displayed at the Nagasaki City Aquarium.

At the Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium in Shukumachi, Nagasaki City, about 60 lanterns in the shape of sea creatures will be displayed for the first time in three years in conjunction with the Lantern Festival.

Among them, the "surfing penguin" made using Chinese washi paper dynamically expresses the appearance of swimming in the Antarctic sea.

In addition, a penguin playing a guitar and a paper lantern using a real pufferfish are introduced.

A man in his 30s who visited said, "There are various kinds of fish, so I thought it would be nice to see the beauty of the lanterns and the cuteness of the fish."

Lanterns made from bottles and PET bottle lids picked up on the coast are also on display to raise awareness of the problem of garbage that has washed up on the coast of Nagasaki Prefecture.

Mr. Yui Kondo, who is in charge of fish at the Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium Breeding and Exhibition Division, said, "I hope you will enjoy the lantern exhibition, which will be held after a long time, and also enjoy learning about the sea."

This event will continue until the 5th of next month, the last day of the Nagasaki Lantern Festival.
