The shipment of "Kuradashi Mikan", a special product of Kaizu City, Gifu Prefecture, has begun.

Nanno-cho, Kaizu City is one of the leading production areas in Gifu Prefecture where about 100 farmers grow mandarin oranges.



At this time of year, the thick-skinned and sour late-age mandarin oranges harvested in December of last year are shipped out as “Kuradashi mandarin oranges,” which are left in the storehouse for more than a month.

Takahiro Iida, who grows tangerines in 25 ares of this orchard, puts the harvested tangerines in wooden boxes and matures them in the storehouse.



In order to ensure the quality of “Kuradashi Mikan”, the Nanno Mikan Section keeps the temperature in the storehouse between 3 and 5 degrees and the humidity around 85%.



For this reason, Mr. Iida also opened the ventilation opening to adjust the temperature and humidity, checked the condition of the mandarin orange peel, and put it in the shipping basket.

The shipment of "Kuradashi Mikan" will continue until around the beginning of March this year, and in addition to being shipped to the market, it will be sold at JA's direct sales stores and local roadside stations.
