Several hundred people marched Thursday evening in Paris, during a torchlight march to protest against the pension reform, a few days before its examination in committee at the National Assembly, according to an AFP journalist on the spot.

The parade was organized at the call of the trade unions CGT, FO, FSU and Solidaires, before the examination in committee on Monday and a new call for national mobilization on Tuesday.

Torches, red smoke bombs, militant songs and the "Angry Citizens" banner: the march took place in a good-natured atmosphere, from Place Gambetta to Place de la République (east of Paris) and brought together nearly a thousand of people according to the organizers.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon, from La France insoumise, was present.

Flammable Reform

“I am fighting against the pension reform and against all the social attacks that there may be and which are accelerating under Macron.

I think it's good that there is a local mobilization, "said AFP Alice, a resident of the 20th arrondissement who did not wish to give her name and who came with her 9-year-old son.

"I always propose the demonstrations to my children, the torches have a playful aspect", she adds.

Marianne Cabaret-Rossi, professor of history, manifests "for a fairer society, for the old, who are going to retire, and for the young, so that they have a quality education system".

The Social Affairs Committee is looking into this highly inflammable reform from Monday.

The exchanges in the hemicycle must start on February 6 and end on the 17th at midnight, so that the text then passes to the Senate.

The flagship measure of this reform is the postponement to 64 of the legal retirement age by 2030 (compared to 62 currently).
