A Chinese cargo ship ran aground off the coast of Ishigaki Island in Okinawa Prefecture and was flooded.

So far, there are no injuries.

According to the 11th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters, around 9:30 am on the 24th, between Ishigaki Island and Kohama Island in Okinawa Prefecture, a crew member of the Chinese cargo ship "Shin Haijo 2 (8461 tons)" said, "It ran aground. A nearby patrol boat was informed.



The ship has 19 people on board and is flooded, so the Japan Coast Guard Headquarters is proceeding with rescue activities with a helicopter.



So far no one has been injured.



Due to the strong cold air flowing in the sky, the wind intensified in the surrounding area, such as observing the maximum instantaneous wind speed of 21.7 meters at Tonoshiro, Ishigaki City after 9:40 am, and the site became a barge.

Images from cameras installed by NHK on Ishigaki Island show that the helicopter continues to hover as waves crash violently against the hull, occasionally enveloping the entire ship in white waves.



According to the Japan Coast Guard Headquarters, the ship is in danger of sinking, and rescue efforts are underway.
